What is the Difference between Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils, anyway?

Many people think that these two types of oils are similar. The truth is that there is a huge difference between essential oils and fragrance oils. Essential oils are extracted from the plant itself, whether from the blossoms, fruits, seeds, leaves, stem, bark or wood. A steam distillation process is used to extract essential oil from the plant. This makes essential oils purely natural, since they are extracted from the earth itself. They come with a wide range of physical, mental and spiritual health benefits. Due to their benefits for the body, they are often used in medicine, aromatherapy, perfumery, healing, cooking, cosmetics, candle making and soap making, among others.

In contrast, fragrance oils are synthetic and produced in a lab. They are composed of hundreds of chemicals which work together to mimic a certain scent. For example, orange fragrance oil smells of oranges. They do have a stronger scent than essential oils, but they come with absolutely no health benefits at all. The scented candle you find at your local supermarket are almost always composed of fragrance oils. Next time you buy a scented candle, make sure it is composed of essential oil, since you want the health benefits, in addition to the scent.

Here at Nora Beauty Shop, we strictly avoid any fragrance oils, and only use pure essential oils in our soap and body care products. We also recommend that you use only essential oils in your recipes, since they come with numerous benefits for your health.
