What are Pure Essential Oils?

Pure essential oils have improved our overall health and lives for thousands and thousands of years. This ancient tradition has been continued by modern users, introducing many to life-changing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual enhancement.

Pure essential oils are natural substances found in various parts of plants, including the fruit, blossom, stem, leaf, wood or bark. Essential oils are extracted from an expensive and complex steam distillation process, where steam is used to separate the beneficial oils found in plants. For example, it takes about 60 roses to extract one single drop of rose essential oil! These oils are usually expensive, and sold in small batches. The reason why they are so important is because they come with a wide array of physical, mental and even emotional health benefits.

They are used on the body through the skin (application on the skin) or by inhaling their scent (as in aromatherapy). They may be applied on the skin to treat various skin problems such as inflammation, or to cleanse the skin and kill germs. They are also used for medicinal and therapeutic purposes, for relieving pain or fatigue, and even for uplifting your mood. Each type of essential oil comes with its own set of benefits, and may be popular for treating a specific condition.

Other than their health benefits, they also carry the scent of the plant from which they are extracted from. Although their scent may not be as strong as that of synthetic fragrance oils, they are often preferred over fragrance oils because their scent is also beneficial. Fragrance oils have a stronger scent, but absolutely no health benefits.

Essential oils should not be used directly on the skin. They are instead combined with ‘carrier oils’ such as olive oil or sweet almond oil, at no more than 5%. This is because they are so powerful that they may potentially cause skin irritation if applied directly on the skin. This post contains about 120 different types of essential oils, each with a list of its prominent health physical or mental benefits.

At Nora Beauty Shop, we strictly only use pure essential oils in our soap and skin care products, to take advantage of their benefits for the skin and body. We are totally against the use of synthetic fragrance oils in our products, which have no health benefits. For example, our Lavender Soap Bar contains Lavender essential oil, which has been scientifically proven to reduce acne; slow down skin aging and wrinkles with powerful antioxidants; reduce eczema; reduce emotional stress; and enhance sleep.
